Head Mechanic

Help us keep our operation running strong! Cummings Lumber is looking for a skilled and dependable Head Mechanic to join our team. In this role, you’ll play a critical part in keeping our trucks, trailers, forklifts, and heavy equipment running safely and efficiently. If you’re hands-on, mechanically inclined, and take pride in solving problems the right way, we’d love to hear from you.

What You’ll Do

• Perform routine preventative maintenance to keep equipment operating efficiently and minimize downtime
• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair issues across mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and drivetrain systems
• Coordinate and prioritize maintenance work based on operational needs
• Identify and promptly address maintenance, safety, and DOT compliance issues
• Order parts and supplies within established guidelines and maintain cost-effective inventory levels
• Maintain accurate records of repairs, inspections, and purchases
• Keep work areas clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards
• Work collaboratively with team members, while also operating independently when needed
• Use downtime productively for preventative maintenance, housekeeping, or other assigned tasks
• Train or assist in training team members as needed
• Perform additional duties or support other functions as required

What We’re Looking For

• Strong mechanical knowledge of heavy equipment such as boom lifts, forklifts, backhoes, telehandlers, and dozers
• Experience working with hydraulic systems and diesel, gas, and propane engines
• Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment
• Ability to troubleshoot and perform both routine maintenance and complex repairs
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Reliable attendance and strong work ethic

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age
• Must pass pre-employment drug screening

Preferred Qualifications:

• Pennsylvania inspection license (or willingness to obtain)
• Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)

What You’ll Do:

Efficiently sort, straighten, and stack lumber according to lengths
Monitor boards for quality and thickness
Set up carts and crates for appropriate sorts
Preventative maintenance and housekeeping

LUMBER GRADER

We’re looking for a Lumber Grader to join our Mill team. If you have sharp eyes, a steady pace and take pride in doing quality work, we want to hear from you!

What You’ll Do:
• Inspect and grade lumber to our quality standards and cutting orders
• Mark boards for trimming, ripping, re-edging, or routing to get the best grade and product value
• Identify and report thickness variations, mis-cuts, saw marks, and other defects
• Keep your work area clean, organized and safe
• Help train newer team members as you grow in the role
• Assist with housekeeping and preventative maintenance during downtime

What We’re Looking For:
• Strong attention to detail and pride in quality work
• Good eyesight and solid hand-eye coordination
• Sound judgement and decision-making in a fast-paced setting
• Comfort working independently and as part of a small team
• Physical stamina for standing, bending, twisting, and lifting up to 100lbs throughout the shift
• Willingness to wear required PPE (safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection)
• Previous sawmill, lumber, woodworking, or manufacturing experience is a plus but not required.

Are you looking for a solid job with great benefits and a team that takes pride in quality craftsmanship? Cummings Lumber Company is hiring full-time Laborers for our Barefoot Flooring Plant to help create high-quality hardwood flooring used in homes across the country.

What You’ll Do:

Move material through stages of the manufacturing process by:
Stacking lumber, flooring, and finished products according to specifications.
Inspecting materials for quality and identify defects.
Bundling, banding, and palletizing finished products.
Feeding materials into production equipment.
Marking and grading products as needed.
Help maintain steady production flow and support team efficiency
Keep work areas clean, organized, and safe
