Rooted in History: Cummings Lumber Supports Canton FFA at the 110th PA Farm Show

History came to life this week at the 110th Annual Pennsylvania Farm Show, and Cummings Lumber Company was honored to play a small part in it.

The Canton FFA took on the challenge of this year’s “Focal Point” theme by transporting visitors back to 1776. Their landscape display wasn’t just a collection of plants; it was a carefully researched historical tribute.

The Details of 1776 The display featured authentic tools of the era, specifically a Moldboard Plow and a Cradle Scythe. To ensure the borders were historically accurate, the students used weathered locust trees to create fencing identical to what would have been found on a colonial farmstead.

Grown from the Ground Up What makes this display truly remarkable is the effort behind the greenery. Every vegetable, herb, grass, and flower was started from seed by the FFA students themselves. Under the guidance of their teacher, Tom Hojnowski, the students spent months nurturing these plants to be “show-ready.”

Mr. Hojnowski’s leadership is a cornerstone of this project. By showing his students firsthand what it means to work hard and take pride in one’s craft, he is shaping the leaders of tomorrow.

Our Contribution Cummings Lumber donated the Double Ground Bark Mulch that served as the foundation for the display, surrounding the straw piles and vibrant plant life. We believe that supporting organizations like the FFA is essential for the health of our community and the future of the agricultural industry.

Congratulations to the Canton FFA on a stunning display. We applaud your hard work and are proud to be a part of your journey!
